We recently started working with Paul who handles some of the more technical aspects of web development for our more technical projects. Read about Paul from his first introduction to us:
I am an established web developer/programmer currently based in Essex, with eight years of experience in commercial website and web application programming. While I’ve done graphics and design before it is certainly not my forte, so I typically work on a per-project basis with design specialists such as yourselves, undertaking some or all of the front-end and/or back-end coding of a website, and leaving the layout and aesthetics to the experts!
More specifically, I have worked on applications recently which required the bespoke programming or provision of:
– Booking/reservation tools for airport transfer/hotel accommodation including full administrative calendar, job and driver management
– Client/supplier/product tools including automated invoicing, product catalogue and order management, stock control, automated (re)ordering, client/supplier management, transaction statistics generation
– Custom e-commerce integrations with Paypal, WorldPay, SagePay (Protx) and appropriate currency conversions
– Bulk processing, checking and conversion of data from and into any combination of: HTML, CSV, Excel, XML
– Automated email processing functions
– PDF document generation (reports, invoices, balance sheets, letters, receipts)
– Multi-stage insurance quote calculators
– XML-based web services
– Singular and multiple product enquiry/quote mechanisms
– User registration, authentication, subscription, profiling and management tools
– Geocoding / geolocating functions, using Google Maps API
– Content management (CMS) tools for varying content types (web pages, special offers, transfer destinations, golf club profiles, special offers, personal training clients, gallery images)
– Image manipulation
– Database design and management
– Server administration
– Browser-side effects e.g. animations, slideshows, galleries, form validation, rollover menus
– Photoshop PSD to optimised and standards-compliant CSS/XHTML conversion
I generally program web applications in PHP5, but can also use ASP.NET(C#). I am very comfortable with these technologies, as well as with XHTML, CSS, Javascript/AJAX, XML/XSLT, Unix-based virtual/dedicated servers and relational databases including MySQL, MSSQL and Postgres.
