Was recently asked ‘Can you get us up in the search engine natural rankings / listings (organic search) as you mentioned when the website was built’?, this is a common question and nearly always the website was created and promoted into the search engines but to really rank highly and to improve visitor numbers you need to work on your website content (normally via a news section or blog) and to increase your social profile by improving your facebook and twitter pages by increasing followers and ‘likes’ and adding relevant content. Here is a sample reply:
We have done loads of work on the site to ensure it ranks highly in the Search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo and your visitor numbers are increased but am pretty unhappy with the speed it has progressed so far. Yesterday I got the guys to change a few things and over the next week I will review the site in entirety and make more recommendations and changes.
Are you willing to swap links with other related companies (not in your area) if I can arrange them? Have re-reviewed everything and done a few updates / tweaks and changes but the main reports tell me everything is in place and optimised but agree that visitor numbers could be better so the main things we need to do is improve social connections (facebook / twitter) and add more content (blog plus website page content)
Suggestions
1 increase use of the facebook group and get more likes
2 stop spamming on twitter and increase the amount of followers
3 think about letting us build a blog to the site (more details) http://www.delicious-webdesign.com/blogs.html this is a good / cost effective way (£250) to improve the amount / variation of your content but does rely on you updating it yourself (we can also add content on the blog if you want us to carry on SEO with article creation / publishing)
4 give us any new testimonials you have for your testimonials page.
Recent Changes include:
1, Adding social links to the about us page.
2, Checked with Google’s Webmaster Tools for any problems with the site – It reported no Crawl errors and no required HTML errors on any of the 95 indexed pages.
3, Manually reviewed website / website stats / meta data
4, Run two reports that both showed no major omissions in the SEO of the site
So in summary we can add a customised news section to the site (blog) that allows you to add as many sections / pages to the site as you want and we can do a weekly / monthly news item about your products / services
