In terms of website visits you cannot expect miracles as there is always lots of competition (in whatever sector you are in) and you are probably going to be competing against established, bigger websites that have lots of valuable content and mature links to them. That being said you need to start somewhere and you can really help your new website by creating facebook / twitter pages and adding it to local business directories and adding yourself to Google Places (we do this for you as part of our website package deals).
What you shouldn’t expect is your email enquires to instantly pour in and the phone to ring red hot, like everything in life you need to work at it and build your website presence and slowly build its online presence naturally.
This example request shows what you shouldn’t expect from a new website in a competitive sector only after 6 weeks of the site being launched:
[New Website Owner] think im up to about page 3 on Google when doing my main service searches in Essex. A friend of mine has a sports massage practice in Grays, where there are loads of Sports Massage practises. When you do a search for them in Google they always seems to come up on the first page of Google, and he said he doesn’t use any adwords. Would you be able to have a look at it and see how he gets it so high on Google?
Its just that I’m struggling for clients at the moment, have had to go back to the building game until i pick up more clients again. Thought after about 2 months Id be 1st page of Google by now, due to your genius SEO skills!
[Delicious Webdesign] Your Initial results (135 website visits in the last month) are nothing to worry about. You shouldn’t focus on one search term but your visitor numbers. As discussed you need to give your rankings and visitor number expectations time to improve but due to your financial situation you opted for a basic website and supplied only a small amount of text and you have no news pages (blog) which always help a website rank highly, additionally you haven’t created a facebook page, twitter or Google+ account as recommended 4 weeks ago.
Your friend’s website is 6 years old with loads of good / unique / relevant content (18 pages) and he is included in business directories and I agree it ranks highly and looks good but you cannot compare it with your website. If you want to match the ‘quality’ of that website to have a chance to rank highly for your key search terms you will need to consider the suggestions we sent previously to improve your website.
